I do have a favorite hill in the Rockies so far...I LOVE mount Spalding. Its always gorgeous and I have completed this hike 5 times this year to day. The last time was beautiful but I was nervous. On the hike prior a rainstorm moved in faster than we anticipated  and you could FEEL the electric charge in the air. You could HEAR it in the rocks and the occasional static release when you touch a rock. It was cool when everyone in the group and those coming down from summit suddenly had STATIC HAIR...however this was until I felt electricity building in my body, I desperately touched the rocks all round me to release the charge...nothing was happening, at least that was until I saw a spark, crack and felt my body tingle. I'll admit I screamed, tossed my metal hiking pole and booked it like a wild bat out of hell! The reset of my group ensured me they would be fine and to take care of me. I have never moved so fast down a mountain (and its not safe as you can easily roll an ankle, fall or trip however I have completed this hike enough I was comfortable with sprinting down it).  I was fine, just shaken up and the tingling sensation on my left side (pole hand)

" Will You Survive? Protect your brain and run for your life. This is one race where your legs giving out are the least of your problems. Run For Your Lives is a first-of-its-kind event, one part 5K, one part obstacle course, one part escaping the clutches of zombies — and all parts awesome.

Runners will navigate a series of challenging obstacles throughout a 5K course in an attempt to reach the finish line — all while avoiding zombies. At the end of this adventure race, you get to celebrate survival (or zombie transformation) with live entertainment and music, local celebrities, vendors, food, and of course, beer!"

8 Hours in the beating sun, cloudless sky and tree free terrain let me with burn skin, a red and white complexion in addition to blood stained running shoes (I wish I wore my hiking shoes for this). I registered as a zombie since it was only $25 rather than the $50ish and I loved it! Not only did I get a professional ZOMBIE makeover but I got a free race from it too (just wasn't timed but I still got a medal). The course was fun more than difficult, the part that I did struggle with was the HEAT!. Yes they had warm water and shade tents every so often however since there were so many people we did "stack up and back up" in lines, waiting for the obstacles, standing in the heat...getting sick from the direct sun. That part was awful. However after that little "bump" it was great. When I was a Zombie for the second half after the run I did watch someone try to dodge a zomie and roll into a ditch, breaking something (knee or ankle) and we found ourselves stuck as the did NOT have a radio to call the first aid tent or anyone in charge there so 2 zombies had to sprint 1/2 mile to a water tent who may have (and did) have a radio. not a pleasant moment. We did carry on with our zombie duties to learn that some runners where straight up bitches...I'm sorry if I'm suppose to take your football flag do NOT head butt me, push me or ninja chop my arm...we only touch the runners flags and the runners DO NOT TOUCH THE ZOMBIES...its a rule posted at the start...Zombies have feelings too...

When we reached the lake it began to Blizzard anad got super cold..hience no pics cuz way to cold!) we did practice some self arrests tho, always good to know how to use your ICE AXE!!!! I didnt believe ice axe's had a real point beyond looking cool...whew I learned when I tripped and found myself sliding down the snow field of St. Mary's when I stabled myself and dug that axe in the snow to stop me.  I did complain a lot but lucky for me the boys turned me out ;) and the self arrest was the best part...aside from the after hiking beer at Tommy Knockers.

Snow shoes: They suck! I am kinda goofy footed so my snow shoes werent always staight when walking...causing me to lay them ontop eachother when stepping...thwap! face deep into the snow. I did this atleast 20 times and snow was everywhere...like sand!

I was beat to the bone afterwards and sad thing was we only did about 2miles ROUND TRIP...HA...14ners got some time...

My Jenlett has inspired me to get into shape and get out in the world! She is working so hard to accomplish goals that most people are too lazy to do. She hikes mountains and she is working towards running in the Boston Marathon (hosted by B.A.A http://www.baa.org )!

But I need to start SMALL! Although I would love to hope off the couch and run a marathon it’s physically not possible. So to start small I plan to run a HALF marathon by the end of the year.

To start my way to a half marathon I registered for a mini race! Upside I will be out in the fresh air and getting a workout. Now the downfall, it cost money and I just noticed it’s a 5MILE not 5K…so its about double of what I was expecting to run..lol oh well, hope I can finish!

GO FROSTY’S FROZEN FIVE!

Outcome: Time 1:25:17 for 5 Miles (5th from last to finish-I finished that's what matters)
I have learned that water is not always the best thing to keep in a water bottle. Gatorade or a Sports drink is a better choice for the body and tummy (that pukey and light-headed feeling).
